According to The American Psychological Association (APA) Right now, most people who desire to lose weight (and more importantly keep it off) find it the most frustrating thing they are dealing with. For months now, you have been trapped indoors with food always in reach. You may have noticed your stress level at the highest it's ever been. To top that off, your ability to exercise or stay active has come to a halt. This has led to you watching that scale creep up which leads to a lack in motivation to clean or even try to stay active.


In the past, you might have tried diets and felt the effects of "yo-yoing" when you stopped the diet. Maybe you have experienced the pain of counting every calorie that you eat and then lose your patience when you forget to record it. Maybe you are like many of our clients, and already have spent thousands of dollars with nothing or little to show for it.

According to the CDC:

  • From 1999–2000 through 2017–2018, the prevalence of obesity increased from 30.5% to 42.4%, and the prevalence of severe obesity increased from 4.7% to 9.2%.

  • Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer that are some of the leading causes of preventable, premature death.

  • The estimated annual medical cost of obesity in the United States was $190 billion in 2019; the medical cost for people who have obesity was $1,929 higher than those of normal weight. Imagine the savings in 5 years by creating a healthy lifestyle today...

This is due to a multitude of factors (such as the 5 listed below):

  1. Physical inactivity. Sedentary people burn fewer calories than people who are active. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) showed a strong correlations between physical inactivity and weight gain in both sexes.

  2. Overeating. Overeating leads to weight gain, especially if the diet is high in fat. Foods high in fat or sugar (for example, fast food, fried food, and sweets) have high energy density (foods that have a lot of calories in a small amount of food). 

  3. A diet high in simple carbohydrates. The role of carbohydrates in weight gain is not clear. Carbohydrates increase blood glucose levels, which in turn stimulate insulin release by the pancreas, and insulin promotes the growth of fat tissue and can cause weight gain. Some scientists believe that simple carbohydrates (sugars, fructose, desserts, soft drinks, beer, wine, etc.) contribute to weight gain because they are more rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream than complex carbohydrates (pasta, brown rice, grains, vegetables, raw fruits, etc.) and thus cause a more pronounced insulin release after meals than complex carbohydrates. This higher insulin release, some scientists believe, contributes to weight gain.

  4. Frequency of eating. The relationship between frequency of eating (how often you eat) and weight is somewhat controversial. There are many reports of overweight people eating less often than people with normal weight. Scientists have observed that people who eat small meals four or five times daily, have lower cholesterol levels and lower and/or more stable blood sugar levels than people who eat less frequently (two or three large meals daily). One possible explanation is that small frequent meals produce stable insulin levels, whereas large meals cause large spikes of insulin after meals.

  5. Psychological factors. For some people, emotions influence eating habits. Many people eat excessively in response to emotions such as boredom, sadness, stress, or anger. While most overweight people have no more psychological disturbances than normal weight people, about 30% of the people who seek treatment for serious weight problems have difficulties with binge eating.

3. Exercise

We recommend to start (if you do no exercising now) to get some small weights or even better, resistance bands and spend 3 minutes are a time when commercials are on or (if you are like me and watch mostly Netflix) exercise during the intro of every episode (I guess that means no more skipping the intro). Keep it light and fun since this will build the motivation to exercise more.
